Sadako and the Thousand Paper Cranes

Do you know Sadako? Perhaps, you might say "The Ring"

Well, the Sadako I am taking about is a young Japanese Girl during World War II. Her full name is Sadako Sasaki. She is living in Hiroshima when the US Air Force dropped the Nuclear bomb. She developed leukemia because of the radiation. She spent her time making paper cranes, an origami art.

She was told that when she has made a thousand paper cranes, she would be granted a Wish. :) Her wish is very simple...to Live. He has only made 600+ paper cranes and became too weak to make more...until she eventually died of leukemia.

Sadako was buried together with her paper cranes. A statue was built in  Hiroshima Peace Park in memory of her.

These are the paper cranes our class made in History class. It was fun doing them. We had different kinds of designs. I even took home some of the cranes that my classmates made. It would be nice to create a thousand paper cranes. Who knows? Maybe a wish would be granted.
